Contraceptive service needs of women with young children presenting for pediatric care.
The primary objective of this study was to characterize the need for contraceptive services and contraceptive method use among women with young children presenting to child health clinics. It found that most women presenting with young children for pediatric care indicated that they were not currently trying to become pregnant and reported current methods of pregnancy prevention that ranged from none to highly effective.

Intimate partner violence and postpartum contraceptive use: the role of race/ethnicity and prenatal birth control counseling.
The objective of the study was to examine the extent to which intimate partner violence (IPV) around the time of pregnancy is associated with postpartum contraceptive use among women in the United States. Approximately 6.2 percent of women reported IPV, and 15.5 percent reported no postpartum contraceptive use. Regardless of the timing of abuse, IPV-exposed women were significantly less likely to report contraceptive use after delivery.

Correlates of sexual activity and satisfaction in midlife and older women.
The authors gave updated prevalence estimates of sexual activity among women and elucidated factors associated with sexual activity and sexual satisfaction. Using the National Survey of Midlife Development in the United States, they found that a considerable proportion of midlife and older women remain sexually active if they have a partner available. Additionally, psychosocial factors matter more to sexual satisfaction than aging among midlife and older women.

Trends in the utilization of penile prostheses in the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the United States.
This study assessed the national temporal trends in the surgical management of ED utilizing penile prosthesis (PP). It found that the surgical management of ED with PP changed significantly between 2001 and 2010. Also, the overall utilization of PP decreased, but its use in patients with significant medical comorbidities increased.

Association between increased emergency contraception availability and risky sexual practices.
The researchers use a national survey of youth to explore the relationship between increased emergency contraception (EC) availability and the probability of risky sexual practices for women over age 18. They found that FDA approval of behind the counter sales of an EC pill was associated with a reduction in the probability of sexual activity, and in the likelihood of reporting multiple partnerships; however, there was no relationship between the new policy and unprotected sexual activity.

The evolution of self-reported urinary and sexual dysfunction over the last two decades: implications for comparative effectiveness research.
This study evaluated differences in pretreatment urinary and sexual function in two population-based cohorts of men with prostate cancer enrolled nearly 20 yrs. apart. It concluded that reporting of pretreatment urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction has increased over the past two decades. These findings may reflect sociological changes including heightened media attention and direct-to-consumer marketing, among other potential explanations.

Examining quality of contraceptive services for adolescents in Oregon's family planning program.
This study assessed the quality of care provided to adolescents (10–19 years old) compared to women (aged 20–25 years) who accessed services in Oregon's Contraceptive Care (CCare) program. It found that although adolescents served by CCare are more likely to initiate contraception, they are less likely to receive long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) than women aged 20–25 years.

Systematic review of racial disparities in human papillomavirus-associated anal dysplasia and anal cancer among men who have sex with men.
The researchers systematically reviewed the literature on anal human papillomavirus (HPV)infection, dysplasia, and cancer among Black and White men who have sex with men (MSM) to determine if a racial disparity exists. They determined that studies involving Black MSM are nearly absent from the literature. Of 25 eligible studies, 2 stratified by race and sexual behavior. Both reported an elevated rate of abnormal anal outcomes among Black MSM.

Barriers to prevention: knowledge of HPV, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccinations among African American women.
The overall goal of this study was to explore targetable barriers to HPV vaccination among African American women in an urban Chicago population. Most middle-aged African American women demonstrated low knowledge scores regarding HPV, cervical cancer, and the HPV vaccine. Education level, household income and having a child who had been offered the HPV vaccine were associated positively with adequate knowledge scores.
