Risk factors for self-report of not receiving an HIV test among adolescents in NYC with a history of sexual intercourse, 2013 YRBS.
This study estimated the prevalence of and identified risk factors for not receiving an HIV test among adolescents with a history of sexual intercourse in New York City (NYC), an urban area that has been greatly impacted by the HIV epidemic. The study’s findings suggested that among NYC adolescents with a history of sexual intercourse, the prevalence of HIV testing is low. HIV testing may have been low in part because of limited experience with current screening guidelines among clinicians.

Sex behaviors as social cues motivating social venue patronage among young black men who have sex with men.
This study presents a two-mode network analysis that determines the extent that three types of sex behaviors-condomless sex, sex-drug use, and group sex-influence the patronage of different types of social venues among a population sample of young Black men who have sex with men. Its findings demonstrate that social venues can function as intermediary contexts in which relationships can form between individuals that have greater risk potential.

Marijuana use as a sex-drug is associated with HIV risk among black MSM and their network.
Little attention has been paid to marijuana use among black men who have sex with men and its potential for HIV risk. This study found that respondents with a moderate or high perception of network members who use marijuana were more likely to use marijuana both in general and as a sex-drug.

Experiences with food insecurity and risky sex among low-income people living with HIV/AIDS in a resource-rich setting.
The researchers investigated the perceived effects of food insecurity on risky sexual behaviors among a population of low-income people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) in San Francisco and Alameda County, California. Their study demonstrated that food insecurity contributes to transactional and unprotected sex among urban poor individuals in a resource-rich setting, including among men who have sex with men.

Opportunities for sexual transmission of antiretroviral drug resistance among HIV-infected patients in care.
The researchers had two aims: to examine patterns of nonadherence, high-risk sexual behavior, detectable HIV viraemia and antiretroviral drug resistance, and to identify factors associated with potential transmission of drug-resistant HIV among patients engaged in HIV care. They found that a small but significant proportion of clinic patients with viraemia and documented resistant HIV continue to engage in sexual behaviors that place others at risk for transmitted drug resistance.
