Abstract: An annual average of 8.6 percent of U.S. young adults ages 18-26 (about 3.2 million persons) received some type(s) of treatment for mental health disorders in 2007-2009, with 5.4 percent of young adults ages 18-26 receiving ambulatory care and 2.8 percent receiving prescription medications during this period. Less than 1 percent received other services such as hospital inpatient stays, emergency room visits, or home health care.

Abstract: An annual average of 8.6 percent of U.S. children ages 5-17 (about 4.6 million persons) received some type(s) of treatment for mental health disorders in 2007-2009, with 6.7 percent of U.S. children ages 5-17 receiving ambulatory care and 1.8 percent receiving prescription medications during this period. On average, 1.0 percent received other services such as hospital inpatient stays, emergency room visits, or home health care.

Abstract: In 2008, 13.3 million or 17.9 percent of children under 18 years of age in the U.S. noninstitutionalized civilian population were reported as having special health care needs. A total of $54.5 billion was spent on health care for children under 18 identified with special care needs.

Abstract: According to data from the Insurance Component of the 2010 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey, approximately 93.8 million of the 108.4 million employees from the private sector worked where the employer offered health insurance. This Statistical Brief examines what percentage of enrollees pay a deductible and the size of deductibles, what percentage pay co-pays and the size of co-pays, and also coinsurance percentages per industry classification.

Abstract: Using data from the 2004 and 2009 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Insurance Component, this Statistical Brief examines trends and variation in availability of employer-sponsored health insurance for early retirees in the private sector by firm size, union presence, and ownership type. Overall, a smaller percentage of private sector firms offered health insurance to retirees under 65 in 2009 than 2004 (11.2 versus 14.0 percent). While the percentage of large firms (50 or more employees) that offered early retiree coverage was notably lower in 2009 (23.4 percent versus 30.6 percent in 2004), the percentage of small firms offering such coverage was essentially the same in both years (about 1.5 percent).
