Partnerships and Resources for Preventive Services
AHRQ's Prevention Program is committed to improving the health of all Americans by working to ensure that everyone in the health care system—clinicians, consumers, providers, payers—knows about and uses evidence-based clinical preventive services.
To achieve this goal, the Prevention Program works with public and private partners to reach specific groups and individuals about appropriate clinical preventive services, their benefits, and how to improve access to and use of these services.
Here are some examples of tools and products developed with AHRQ partners to provide clinicians, consumers, and others with the information they need to make evidence-based decisions about preventive care.
Cancer Prevention
A top-priority activity of the Prevention Program is preventing cancer through better awareness and use of evidence-based preventive services, such as counseling to reduce tobacco use. The program also works to reduce mortality from cancers through better awareness and use of screening services such as screening for colorectal
cancer.

Clinical/Community Partnerships
Working together, clinicians and communities have the potential to do a better job of preventing disease and promoting health than either group could do alone. The Prevention Program provides technical assistance and support to help primary care clinicians (doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants) and public health entities form effective community partnerships to address the health challenges of poor nutrition, physical inactivity, tobacco use, asthma, diabetes, and obesity.

Evidence-Based Health Care Coverage
Employers and health care purchasers need up-to-date information about the evidence supporting the value of providing clinical preventive services. The Prevention Program provides scientific consultation and expertise to support the development of publications written specifically for business audiences and for health care coverage decisionmakers.

Getting the Word Out
To make evidence-based preventive services as effective as possible, it's essential to provide information about sound disease prevention and health promotion policies and practices to everyone who makes decisions about preventive
health care, including consumers. The Prevention Program supports activities to prioritize clinical preventive services, engage health professional organizations, and develop tools to make it easier to implement preventive services in clinical practice.
