Abstract: This report presents estimates of access to health care by the civilian noninstitutionalized population of the United States during 1996, as derived from 1996 MEPS Household Component data. Two major topics are addressed: usual sources of health care and barriers to receiving needed care. Specific comparisons are made by age, race/ethnicity, sex, perceived health status, health insurance coverage, and place of residence.
