Abstract: In 2007, there were approximately 23.9 million adults ages 18 to 64 in the U.S. civilian noninstitutionalized population with a mental health or substance abuse (MHSA) related expense, compared with 13.0 million adults in the same age group in 1997. Total MHSA expenses for adults ages 18-64 in 2007 were approximately $36.5 billion, $13 billion higher than in 1997 (adjusted to 2007 dollars).

Abstract: This report characterizes how the civilian noninstitutionalized population used and paid for dental care from 1996 through 2000, using data from MEPS. The percent of people with any use of dental services each year as well as the average number of visits per year are presented. Estimates include annual expenses and sources of payment (including out-of-pocket amounts). These estimates are presented for the total population as well as for specific population groups categorized in terms of insurance coverage, income, employment, and Census region. The report emphasizes change over time.
