Responsibilities
Direct a staff of approximately 50 highly trained and skilled economists, statisticians, social scientists, clinicians and support staff conducting intramural and supporting extramural research on behalf of the Agency.
Direct activities necessary to conduct and support a wide range of studies related to the cost and financing of personal health care services. Studies include analyses of health care use and expenditures by individuals and families for personal health care services, the sources of payment for health care, the availability and cost of health insurance, and health status, outcomes and satisfaction.
Direct the Center's administration of surveys and development of large primary data sets, including the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), to support health care policy and behavioral research and analyses. These activities fall along a continuum ranging from data development, evaluation and dissemination, to basic and applied research supporting policy analysis. The Center conducts a significant amount of intramural research, but also supports a portfolio of extramural research. Additionally, the Center coordinates and works with other Agency offices and centers, and supports AHRQ's cross-cutting initiatives and workgroups.

Survey Experience
Authored over 100 journal articles and publications and made over 100 presentations in the areas of biostatistics, survey research methodology, estimation, survey design and health services research.

Selected to receive the AHCPR Administrator's Award of Merit, September, 1993
Received award from the Statistics Section of the American Public Health Association for outstanding contributions to the field of public health statistics, November, 1996
