William B. Baine, M.D.

William B. Baine, M.D., is a graduate of Princeton and Vanderbilt. He holds board certification in internal medicine, infectious disease, and geriatric medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology. Dr. Baine has been an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer and medical epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), serving in Atlanta and Rome, Italy.

Dr. Baine joined AHRQ after 11 years on the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and 4 years in private practice. His major investigative interest is the application of Medicare claims data to outcomes and effectiveness research and cost-effectiveness analysis.

Dr. Baine remains active clinically and teaches at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he is Adjunct Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics and Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine. He is the AHRQ liaison to the Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis and to the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee at CDC and represents AHRQ on the task force of the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Public Health Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance.
