Service Delivery Issues Related to Specific Health care Needs

Dental care. This service area represents the largest unmet healthcare need among the target population. There have historically been problems in providing dental care in Medicaid; therefore, SCHIP may fare better by starting over rather than utilizing existing Medicaid systems to meet the dental needs of participants.

Family planning. Title X has been a success. SCHIP programs will benefit by building on its success.

Mental health/substance abuse. This is an area in which there is also great unmet need. A separate system of community providers may best meet the needs of SCHIP participants in this service area.
