RIte Care Benefit Package Features

In addition to standard commercial health care services, the RIte Care program also offered participants:

  • Transportation provided through an agreement with the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA).
  • Translation services.
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural provider network and member services.
  • Unlimited mental health and substance abuse services.
  • School-based clinics.
  • A consumer advisory council.
  • Early intervention programs such as RIte Beginnings—a professional nursing case management and home visitation program targeted towards low-income, first-time teen mothers. The program focuses on parenting skills, child development, self-sufficiency, problem solving skills, health care compliance, and enhancing personal and community networks.

The RIte Care program aimed to meet the following goals:

  • Improved access to care.
  • Assured quality of services.
  • Improved health status as assessed by:
    • Decreased incidence of Low Birth Weight (LBW).
    • Increased use of prenatal care.
    • Improved immunization rates.
    • Decreased prevalence of lead poisoning.
    • Lengthened inter-pregnancy intervals.
    • Decreased preventable hospitalizations.
