Data Collection
Variation in data collection methods can contribute
significantly to differences in results among studies that examine similar research
questions. When reviewing estimates of the uninsured population the reader will want to
consider the following questions regarding data collection:
- How are the respondents contacted? Are
phone interviews, face-to-face interviews, or surveys employed?
- Is information collected prospectively or retrospectively?
- How often are respondents contacted? What
is the recall period? Are participants asked to recall information from the past month,
several months, or year?
