Federal Reporting Requirements

HCFA has required each State to include in its SCHIP plan an assurance that the State will collect data, maintain records, and furnish reports that will allow the Secretary to monitor program administration and to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of State plans under Title XXI. In a December 1998 letter to State officials (this letter and other HCFA guidance can be found at http://cms.hhs.gov/schip/), HCFA provides States with information regarding the data to be collected and performance indicators to be tracked in order to assess the progress made in reducing the number of uninsured low-income children.
