On February 21, 2002, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced an updated recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). This recommendation affirms HHS' existing position on the value of mammography.

The USPSTF, the leading independent panel of private-sector experts in prevention and primary care, is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and conducts rigorous, impartial assessments of scientific evidence for a broad range of preventive services.
The event is available as a Web cast through Kaisernetwork.org, an online news service sponsored by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
