Appendix 3. Search Results (Text Description)

Appendix 3 shows the results of a MEDLINE® search on the topic of gonorrhea, covering January 1966 through July 2004.

The diagram shows searches performed on the topics of screening, risk factors, cost, screening tests and test performance, pregnancy, and neonatal preventive medication.

For the topic of screening, 140 citations resulted, 25 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 14 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

For the topic of risk factors, 349 citations resulted, 212 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 82 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

For the topic of cost, 195 citations resulted, 60 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 22 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

For the topic of screening tests and test performance, 364 citations resulted, 227 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 156 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

For the topic of pregnancy, 481 citations resulted, 340 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 30 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

For the topic of neonatal preventive medication, 47 citations resulted, 9 abstracts were reviewed after deletion of duplicate or non-English citations, and 6 articles were pulled after inclusion/exclusion criteria were applied to the abstracts.

An additional 12 articles were added from hand searches and reference lists.
