Figure 2-1: Political Boundaries and Population Income, Detroit Metropolitan Area (Text Description)

The figure is a map of the Detroit metropolitan area showing the county, city, and ZIP Code boundaries and the distribution of households with income less than $15,000. Areas where 30 to 70 percent of the households had income less than $15,000 were concentrated within the city of Detroit in 1999. Areas where 20 to 30 percent of households had income less than $15,000 were concentrated within the city boundary and the immediate suburbs to the west. Areas where 10 to 20 percent of households had less than $15,000 of income in 1999 were concentrated in the next-closest suburban areas surrounding the city. Areas where zero to 5 percent of households had less than $15,000 of income were primarily in the distant northwest suburbs.
