Figure 3-3: Percent of Population Below Poverty and Percent Uninsured, Adults Ages 18-64, Metropolitan Areas (Text Description)

The figure is a scatter graph that shows the percentage of the population below the Federal poverty level in 2000 and the percentage of the population that was uninsured in 1999-2001, by metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). More than half of the MSAs had 12.5 percent of less of their populations below poverty, but the uninsured rates for those MSAs ranged from about 10 percent to almost 50 percent. The MSAs are widely dispersed on the graph, but there is a small cluster at 12 percent poverty/20 percent uninsured, and another small cluster at 9 percent poverty/30 percent uninsured.
