Figure 6-3: Association Between Racial and Economic Dissimilarity Indices, Metropolitan Areas, 1999 (Text Description)

The figure is a scatter graph that plots the racial dissimilarity index against the economic dissimilarity index for metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs). In general, MSAs with higher racial dissimilarity indices also have higher economic dissimilarity indices. MSAs where the racial index is significantly greater than the economic index include Modesto, Johnson City, Scranton, Little Rock, Chattanooga, St. Louis, Newark, Milwaukee, and Detroit.
