The figure is a graph showing the percentage of births with late or no prenatal care, by region of the Nation. In the Northeast, New York and Jersey City had rates between 6 and 7 percent, and Newark was slightly less than 6 percent. In Philadelphia, the rate was roughly 4.5 percent. In Albany and Springfield, the rate was between 3 and 4 percent. In Lancaster and Boston, the rate was between 2 and 3 percent. In Providence and Portland, the rate was between 1 and 2 percent. In the South, the rate was just more than 6 percent in West Palm Beach and just less than 6 percent in Memphis. In Columbia, Fort Lauderdale, and Fort Myers, the rate was between 4 and 5 percent. In Washington, DC, and Baltimore, the rate was between 3 and 4 percent. In Tampa, Nashville, and Miami, the rate was between 2 and 3 percent. In the Midwest, the rate of births with late or prenatal care was between 4 and 5 percent in Chicago and Detroit and roughly 3.5 percent in Milwaukee. In St. Louis and Kansas City, the rate was between 2 and 3 percent. In Madison, the rate was 1.8 percent. In the West, Tucson had the highest rate, in excess of 8 percent, followed by Las Vegas at 7.6 percent. In Stockton and Phoenix, the rate was roughly 6 percent. In Salt Lake City and Denver, the rate was between 4 and 5 percent. In Sacramento and Portland, the rate was between 3 and 4 percent. In San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Oakland, the rate was between 2 and 3 percent. In Spokane and Ventura, the rate of births with late or no prenatal care was between 1.5 and 2 percent.
