Project Description: There are two aims to this
research project:
- Compare pressure ulcer quality measures in Nursing Home
Compare data in nursing homes with high information technology (IT) sophistication versus nursing homes
with low IT sophistication.
- Explore strategies to communicate pressure
ulcer preventions using in nursing homes with high IT sophistication versus
nursing homes with low IT sophistication.
Career Goals: Dr. Alexander earned his
Ph.D. in Health Care Systems from the University of Missouri, Columbia during
which time he received numerous academic awards. Before becoming an Assistant
Professor in the Sinclair School of Nursing, he was a National Library of
Medicine Predoctoral Fellow in Informatics, also at the University of Missouri. He wants to establish himself
as an independent investigator with a focus on improving the healthcare of
institutionalized elders by insuring there are adequate clinical information
systems integrated into clinical processes in nursing homes.
Progress to Date: Dr. Alexander has been
progressing through his academic coursework as proposed. He has worked with
preliminary data to describe the current level of IT sophistication in nursing
homes in Missouri.
Future Plans: The grantee will focus on
dissemination of the preliminary work and further analyzing the IT
sophistication data. He will also continue developing manuscripts for
submission.
