Project Description: This research has two main
aims:
- Determine the effect of nurse staffing legislation on acute myocardial infarction (AMI) mortality
and the differential effect by hospital occupancy rate, hospital market
structure, and demographic characteristics.
- Determine the effects of
nurse staffing, hospital occupancy rates, and hospital market structure on AMI
mortality.
Career Goals: Dr. McHugh is a Research
Associate in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and his M.P.H. from Harvard. He went on to earn his J.D. from Northeastern University Law School and is a Member of the Bar in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Dr.
McHugh is committed to a career as a health services researcher evaluating
health policy outcomes and promoting evidence-based health policy.
