Abstract:
This guideline recommends a comprehensive treatment program for adults with pressure ulcers.
Topics include assessment of the patient and pressure ulcer, tissue load management, ulcer care, management
of bacterial colonization and infection, operative repair in selected patients with Stage III and IV pressure
ulcers, and education and quality improvement in agencies and institutions. Other important issues are
assessing the patient's psychosocial and nutritional status and managing pain.
Purpose:
This guideline helps clinicians examine and treat adults who have pressure ulcers.
