Abstract:
This overview defines benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) as a condition in which a man's prostate is
enlarged but otherwise normal. Five treatments, with acceptable benefits and risks include watchful waiting;
alpha-blocker drugs; finasteride drug treatment; balloon dilation; and surgical treatment (transurethral resection
of the prostate, transurethral incision of the prostate, and open prostatectomy).
Purpose:
