Expanding Research and Evaluation Designs to Improve the Science Base

Meeting Summary

On September 13-15, 2005, AHRQ convened a meeting to examine public health quality improvement interventions.

This symposium, held September 13-15, 2005, reviewed a range of quality improvement interventions (QIIs) and the critical questions that arise in evaluation of these interventions, identified the strengths, weaknesses, and tradeoffs of alternative designs and methods for evaluating QIIs, and suggested strategies to facilitate possible changes in funding mechanisms, review processes, research and publication standards, and research training to help accelerate the development and spread of reliable QII research methods.
