Limited evidence of benefit of interventions during early stages of chronic kidney disease

A new research review from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) found no or limited evidence that screening, monitoring, and treatment interventions are beneficial to patients in the early stages of chronic kidney disease. Authors of the review evaluated the evidence on the potential benefits and harms of screening, monitoring, and treatment of adults for early-stage chronic kidney disease, that is, the first three stages of five stages of the disease. Many knowledge gaps remain, however, and additional research should increase understanding regarding optimal approaches to chronic kidney disease screening, monitoring, and treatment. Chronic kidney disease affects more than 44 percent of U.S. adults over the age of 70.
