Between 1999 and 2009, the number of Americans prescribed anticonvulsant drugs nearly doubled, rising from 8.6 million to 15.2 million, while spending increased from $3.3 billion to $10.6 billion, according to a new statistical brief from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
