Audio news release featuring AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy on how consumers can improve their chances of getting high quality services by taking an active role in their care

NARRATOR: Healthcare is not the same for all Americans. The 2007 National Healthcare Quality Report, just released by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, confirms again that the poor, the uninsured, people with disabilities and minorities have more difficulty getting access to quality health care. AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy suggests that consumers can improve their chances of getting high quality services by taking an active role in their care.

Dr. Carolyn Clancy: "Most of us wouldn't buy a car until we researched the safety features, the costs of repairs and other features. We need to do the same with the health care services that we and our loved need and use. Don't wait until our health care system is perfect. The sooner you become involved, the better off you and our health care system will be."

NARRATOR: A-H-R-Q has developed tools and information to help consumers be involved, ask questions, and learn more about the way they can stay healthy. Visit the "Be an Active Health Care Consumer" page at A-H-R-Q.gov. A message from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
