Testimony on Comparative Effectiveness Research Nancy H. Covell, New York State Psychiatric InstituteOn April 3, 2009, public testimony on comparative effectiveness research was given at a meeting of the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality. The testimony represents the views of the presenter and not necessarily those of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) or the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Delivered Via Electronic MailDear Persons-I am writing to note the need for comparative effectiveness studies targeting antipsychotic polypharmacy. This practice places enormous burden on state and other provider budgets while also exposing individuals to increased risk of side effects, yet there is little data to guide it's effectiveness compared to other alternatives. I am happy to see dollars set aside for such important research and look forward to reading the minutes from your public meeting.Sincerely yours,Nancy H.
