Electronic Preventive Services Selector (ePSS)
The Electronic Preventive Services Selector (ePSS) is a quick hands-on tool to help primary care clinicians identify the screening, counseling, and preventive medication services that are appropriate for their patients. The ePSS is available both as a PDA application and a Web-based tool. It is based on current recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and can be searched by specific patient characteristics, such as age, sex, and selected behavioral risk factors.

Employer Coverage of Clinical Preventive Services in the United States (from Evidence-Based Practice to Practice-Based Evidence). M. Bondi, J. Harris, D. Reports on a national survey of employers and provides current data on clinical preventive services coverage by health plan type and employer size. Long-Term Effectiveness of Weight-Loss Interventions in Adults with Pre-Diabetes: A Review. S. Norris, X. Zhang, A. Avenell, et al., American Journal of Preventive Medicine 28(1):2005, 126-139. Assesses the effectiveness of weight-loss and weight-control interventions for adults with pre-diabetes, an important risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. Finds that overall, weight-loss strategies using dietary, physical activity, or behavioral interventions produced significant improvements in weight among persons with pre-diabetes, and a significant decrease in diabetes incidence. Examines the prevalence of motorcycle-related hospitalization in the United States in 2001 and describes the demographic, clinical, hospital, and financial characteristics associated with these injuries.
