Adult Preventive Care Timeline Promotes Prevention at Clinical Visits

AHRQ's Adult Preventive Care Timeline informs patients of age-appropriate preventive health services—screenings, counseling and preventive health measures recommended throughout adulthood.  Based on recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, this wall chart is ideal for posting in physician's offices and other clinical areas.

In an easy-to-read format, the timeline displays the Task Force's recommendations for preventive care for men and women age 18 and older. The timeline alerts and informs patients at what age they are at risk for the development of certain conditions and recommends appropriate health screenings, services, and counseling. Many of the most common categories of conditions are covered, such as heart health, cancer, sexual health, behavior risks, bone health, mental health, and immunizations. Clinicians can use the timeline as a conversation starter for talking with their patients about preventive services they need.

The Task Force is the leading independent panel of private-sector experts in prevention and primary care. The Task Force, which is supported by AHRQ, conducts rigorous, impartial assessments of the scientific evidence for a broad range of clinical preventive services, including screening, counseling, and preventive medications. Its recommendations are considered the gold standard for clinical preventive services.
