Description
Understanding the order and the rate of accumulation of chronic conditions is important to effective care management of patients. The project focuses on timing and sequencing of conditions, and examines the linkages among condition sequence with health services use. The analytic approach incorporates the theory of stochastic processes in the analysis of longitudinal data by describing the specific accumulation of MCCs within patients over time.
Specific Aims
- Test whether the accumulation of chronic conditions in subsequent years will depend on the patterns of chronic conditions among patients in the baseline year.
- Identify the role of age, sex, and race and use of outpatient and specialty services to explain the accumulation of conditions over time.
- Investigate the health care utilization pattern associated with specific combinations of chronic conditions.
Main Objective
Develop better understanding of the order and rate of accumulation of chronic conditions over time and its association with healthcare utilization.
