Figures 3.7A-B. Polarized plugs fit into polarized outlets only one way

Photograph of polarized plug and polarized outlet. One blade on the plug and one groove in the outlet are wider than the other so that the plug can fit into the outlet only one way.

A. Polarized plug

Photograph of a polarized plug warning label. The text reads: 'This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce risk of electric shock, the plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.'
