Appendix I. Annotated Bibliography

Community quality collaboratives are community-based organizations of multiple stakeholders, including health care providers, purchasers (employers, employer coalitions, Medicaid and others), health plans, and consumer advocacy organizations, that are working together to transform health care at the local level. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality offers these organizations many tools to assist in their efforts.

Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done

This is a classic business text that is targeted to for-profit businesses, but provides useful insights for nonprofits as well. In particular, the focus on leadership and how to get things done is critical to the sustainability of Community Quality Collaboratives.

Forces for Good: The Six Practices of High-Impact Nonprofits

This book summarizes six high-impact practices of leading nonprofit organizations. While it is not specific to health care or multi-stakeholder collaboratives, it provides valuable insights into how successful nonprofits built their success and sustainability. The text is organized around case studies, with practical tips and tools. The Appendices include information about nonprofit missions and sources of funding.

High-Performance Nonprofit Organizations: Managing Upstream for Greater Impact

Strategic Planning for Nonprofit Organizations

This well-organized resource book provides clear guidance on how to conduct a strategic planning process along with practical examples of approaches and tools. The book comes with a CD-ROM with templates in electronic format, as well as viewing applications for those who may not have compatible software. The book and CD are modular, allowing users to either follow the entire process or to select the sections or components that are most relevant.
