Figure 2. Clinical Excellence: Reduction in VAP (Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia)

The figure shows a graph plotting the number of infections per 1,000 ventilator days. The horizontal axis is in months with a range of December 2004 through May 2006. The vertical axis is the number of infections per 1,000 ventilator days with a range of 0 through 14 days.

On the upper right-hand corner of the graph there is also a text box entitled: Number of VAP cases- 57 in 2005, 3 in 2006 year-to-date (YTD) (January through May)

Figure 3. SSI Study Results: Aggregate Cumulative Charges

Figure 3 is a graph that shows the cost of surgical site infections (SSI) by number of days treating the SSI, where the horizontal axis is days after surgical procedure. Days are marked in increments of 5, 0 through 75, until the final increment, which is 80-158. The vertical axis shows dollars marked in increments of $500,000, $0 through $2,000,000. Two lines are plotted: SSI and Match. Both lines begin at 0 days with a cost just above $500,000.The SSI line rises rapidly to $1,000,000 at about 15 days, reaches $1,500,000 at about 50 days, and ends at $1,740,000 at 80 days.

The Match line rises to $793,000 at about 10 days and continues at this level until 80 days.
