TEDS consolidates data from State administrative systems collecting information about admissions to facilities treating alcohol and drug abuse.
TEDS includes data on the demographic and substance abuse characteristics of admissions to facilities that are licensed or certified by State substance abuse agencies to provide substance abuse treatment. TEDS comprises data that are routinely collected by States as they monitor their substance abuse treatment systems. Facilities reporting into TEDS are generally those that receive State substance abuse treatment funds, including Federal Block Grant funds. The scope of facilities included in TEDS may differ from State to State due to differences in State systems of licensure, certification, accreditation, and funds disbursement. Private for-profit facilities, hospitals, and State correctional facilities may be excluded from TEDS if not licensed through the State substance abuse agency. TEDS does not include data from facilities operated by Federal agencies.
