Kent State University School of Nursing has been using the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations because of their scientific credibility. For the past eight years, graduate nurse practitioner students have received an introduction to clinical prevention, which includes an overview of the Task Force, its history, and its goals.

The school's electronic nursing syllabus provides a direct link to the Task Force's Guide to Clinical Preventive Services. The school also uses the Task Force screening and counseling recommendations as the basis for students' clinical assessments.

"We link to the Task Force recommendations a great deal because they cover the major burden of illness and are well weighted from a public health perspective," says Scott Fleming, NP, Program Director for the Adult Geriatric and Family Nurse Practitioner Track. "We appreciate the Task Force recommendations because we're able to update and access them instantly, at no cost."

Located in Kent, Ohio, the Kent State University College of Nursing enrolls approximately 1,600 students each year.
