2009 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Reports

The National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR) is a comprehensive national overview of quality of health care in the United States. It is organized around four dimensions of quality of care: effectiveness, patient safety, timeliness, and patient centeredness.


Patient Experience of Care
Composite measure: Adults who had a doctor's office or clinic visit in the last 12 months whose health providers listened carefully, explained things clearly, respected what they had to say, and spent enough time with them

Racial and ethnic composition of dental professionals and total U.S. population.

Focus on Care Coordination
Patients who reported that they always received test results, that their personal doctor always seemed informed and up to date about care received from specialist doctors, and that other providers at their doctor's office always had all the information they needed, commercially insured adults ages 18-64 in primary care practices.
Parents who reported that they always received test results for their child, that their child's personal doctor always seemed informed and up to date about care received from specialist doctors, and that other providers at their child's doctor's office always had all the information they needed, commercially insured children under age 18 in primary care practices.
Hospital patients with heart failure discharged home with written instructions or educational material.
Adult hospital patients who reported that hospital staff did not talk with them about whether they would have the help they needed when they left the hospital or that they did not get information in writing about what symptoms or health problems to look out for after they left the hospital.

Care Coordination for Children With Special Health Care Needs
Children with special health care needs who received wanted or needed care coordination.
