a There is not full agreement regarding the appropriate population (denominator) for this measure, addressing lymph node surgery in women with breast cancer. In the most current draft form during production of the Reports, the measure specification from the National Quality Forum included only women with stage I/II cancer. Women classified as having stage III disease during lymph node surgery (based on 4 or more positive nodes) were excluded if their stage prior to surgery (i.e., clinical stage) was not recorded. This may artificially lower the rates for this measure.

b Total includes records with unknown race/ethnicity.

b Median Zip Code income as of Census 2000. Negative/poor refers to household incomes below the Federal poverty line; near poor/low, the poverty line to just below 200 percent of the poverty line; middle, 200 percent to just below 400 percent of the poverty line; and high, 400 percent of the poverty line and over.

d Large metropolitan includes areas with a population of one million or more; small metropolitan includes areas with a population less than one million.

DSU - Data do not meet the criteria for statistical reliability, data quality, or confidentiality.
