a Consistent with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Prevention Quality Indicators software, bacterial pneumonia must be the principal diagnosis. Excludes admissions for sickle cell disease and transfers from other institutions.

b Rates are adjusted by age and gender using the total U.S. resident population for 2000 as the standard population; when reporting is by age, the adjustment is by gender only; when reporting is by gender, the adjustment is by age only.

DSU - Data do not meet the criteria for statistical reliability, data quality, or confidentiality.

Key: API: Asian or Pacific Islander; SE: standard error.

The analysis file is designed to provide national estimates on disparities using weighted records from a sample of hospitals from the following 36 States: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
