Hospital Deaths for Heart Conditions Increased While Hospitalizations Decreased During the First Year of COVID-19
A new Data Spotlight (PDF, 1 MB) from AHRQ shows that hospital admissions for heart failure decreased by 15 percent from 2019 to 2020, while deaths from heart failure more than doubled. Racial and ethnic health disparities for heart disease persisted, with non-Hispanic Black people having the highest death rate.
