A new publication developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality B or AHRQ [pronounced "ark"] with A-A-R-P and the Health Resources and Services Administration, is helping people over 50 stay healthy and active. Staying Healthy at 50-plus is full of research-based tips and recommendations on such topics as vision problems, hearing loss, osteoporosis, menopause, blood pressure, diabetes and tobacco use.
AHRQ Director John M. Eisenberg M.D. had this to say:
(EISENBERG):
THIS BOOKLET TAKES EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE AND IT TRANSLATES IT INTO SOLID HEALTH INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW WORKS IN PREVENTIVE CARE. THE MESSAGE FOR OLDER PEOPLE IS THAT THEY CAN BE ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR OWN HEALTHCARE. THEY CAN BE THE DOCTOR'S PARTNER IN PUTTING RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE.
(CLOSE):
You can order free copies of Staying Healthy at 50-plus in English or Spanish by calling 1-800-3-5-8-9-2-9-5 or by visiting w-w-w-dot-a-h-r-q-dot-gov. This is Mike Weiner reporting.
