Enhancing quality measurement with clinical information: a use case of body mass index change among children taking second generation antipsychotics.
The authors sought to examine the extent to which body mass index (BMI) was available in electronic health records for Florida Medicaid recipients aged 5 to 18 years taking Second-Generation Antipsychotics (SGAP). They concluded that meeting the 2030 CMS goal of digital monitoring of quality of care will require continuing expansion of clinical encounter data capture to provide the data needed for digital quality monitoring. Using linked electronic health records and claims data allows identifying children at higher risk for SGAP-induced weight gain.

Quality measures for managing prescription of antipsychotic medication among youths: factors associated with health plan performance.
This study examined the performance of health plans on two Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) measures: metabolic monitoring of children and adolescents prescribed an antipsychotic and use of first-line psychosocial care for children and adolescents prescribed an antipsychotic for a nonindicated use. This study then identified key plan characteristics and other contextual factors associated with health plan performance on quality measures related to pediatric antipsychotic prescribing. Findings suggested that quality measures, in conjunction with policies such as prior authorization, can encourage better care delivery to vulnerable populations.

Design of MARQUIS2: study protocol for a mentored implementation study of an evidence-based toolkit to improve patient safety through medication reconciliation.
The first Multi-center Medication Reconciliation Quality Improvement Study (MARQUIS1) demonstrated that implementation of a medication reconciliation best practices toolkit decreased total unintentional medication discrepancies in five hospitals. In this study, the investigators sought to implement the MARQUIS toolkit in more diverse hospitals, incorporating lessons learned from MARQUIS1.

Pediatric health care quality measures: considerations for pharmacotherapy.
The authors used the Pediatric Quality Measures Program that arose from the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act in the United States to illustrate the challenges in developing quality measures of pediatric pharmacotherapy. They identified the challenges aw being twofold: (i) weak evidence base for the specific pharmacotherapy in children and (ii) limited data to calculate the measure. They concluded that health information technology is emerging as a tool to improve quality measurement but presents additional challenges.

The medication appropriateness index at 20: where it started, where it has been, and where it may be going.
The objective of this narrative review is to describe finding regarding the reliability of the Medication Appropriateness Index (MAI), a comparison of the MAI with other quality measures of potentially inappropriate prescribing, the predictive value of the MAI with important health outcomes, and the responsiveness of the MAI to change within the framework of randomized controlled trials.
