Disparities and implicit bias in the management of low-risk febrile infants: a mixed methods study protocol.
The purpose of this proposed study is to explore the role of implicit racial bias in inequitable implementation of emergency care clinical guidelines for low-risk febrile infants. The researchers will conduct a cross-sectional study of low-risk febrile infants treated in the emergency departments (ED) of 42 participating sites from the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Collaborative Research Committee. The study will evaluate the relationship between 1) race and ethnicity and 2) limited English proficiency with the primary outcome, discharge to home without lumbar puncture or antibiotics. Simultaneously, the researchers will conduct individual semi-structured interviews with 1) minority parents of febrile infants and 2) pediatric ED physicians. The data will be reviewed to assess disparities and bias in communication and medical decision-making.

Rotavirus vaccination rate disparities seen among infants with acute gastroenteritis in Georgia.
The purpose of this study was to determine possible disparities and socio-economic differences in RV vaccination rates. The study conclude that racial disparities and socio-economic differences are not determinants in rotavirus vaccination rates; however, age and ethnicity have an effect on RV vaccine status.

Disparities in infant mortality by race among Hispanic and non-Hispanic infants.
This study explored possible implications of racial identification for the health of U.S. born Hispanic compared to non-Hispanic infants. It concluded that the risk of infant mortality varies among Hispanic infants by race, with poorer outcomes experienced by Hispanic black infants. Compared to non-Hispanic infants of the same race, Hispanic black infants experience a smaller health disadvantage and Hispanic white infants have better or similar infant health outcomes.

Timeliness, frequency and content of antenatal care: which is most important to reducing indigenous disparities in birth weight in Mexico?
The authors estimated the potential for added weight gain among indigenous infants if their mothers received timely, frequent, and complete antenatal care (ANC). They found that the frequency of ANC was positively associated with birth weight for all women but complete ANC appears to differentially affect indigenous women at the bottom of the birth weight distribution.
