SOPS Ambulatory Surgery Center Database
AHRQ has established the Ambulatory Surgery Center Survey on Patient Safety Culture Database as a central repository for survey data from ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) that have administered the AHRQ patient safety culture survey instrument and choose to submit their survey data to the AHRQ Ambulatory Surgery Center SOPS® database. The database serves as an important resource for patient safety culture improvement.
- Submission Information—For ASCs interested in submitting their ASC patient safety culture survey data.
- Research Datasets—Provides information and application instructions for researchers interested in obtaining deidentified data files from the database to conduct research.
Current Database Report
2021 ASC Database Report (PDF, 4.2 MB); Executive Summary (PDF, 1 MB); Appendixes (PDF, 660 KB)—Presents data from 235 participating ASCs that administered the survey and submitted data. The report consists of a narrative description of the findings and two appendixes, presenting data by facility characteristics (number of operating/procedure rooms and geographic region) and respondent characteristics (organizational learning, staffing, work pressure and pace, and communication in the surgery/procedure room). The report contains data voluntarily submitted by participating ASCs and is not representative of all U.S. ASCs.
Previous Database Reports
2020 ASC Database Report (PDF, 2.5 MB); Overview (PDF, 1 MB); Appendixes (PDF, 670 KB)—Based on data from 282 participating ASCs, the 2020 report consists of a narrative description of the findings and two appendixes, presenting data by facility characteristics (number of operating/procedure rooms and geographic region) and respondent characteristics (staff position and hours worked per week). The report contains data voluntarily submitted by participating ASCs and is not representative of all U.S. ASCs.
Results from the 2014 Ambulatory Surgery Center Pilot Study (PDF, 2 MB)—Pilot study results are provided for the items and safety culture composites on the AHRQ Ambulatory Surgery Center Survey on Patient Safety Culture from 59 ambulatory surgery centers that participated in a pilot test of the survey in the United States in 2014.
