USPSTF Welcomes New Members at Orientation and First Meeting
On Sept. 29 and 30, 2026, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force convened at AHRQ for a two-day meeting. Eight new members joined the Task Force and completed orientation, during which AHRQ staff and current members briefed them on the Task Force’s mission and history, its methods for reviewing evidence, and how it prioritizes topics and members’ responsibilities.
On Sept. 30, AHRQ Director Dr. Roger Klein swore in all 16 members, both new and previously appointed. New members, who include some of the most accomplished national experts ever to serve on the Task Force, will begin four-year terms. Members review the best available evidence on preventive services, weigh benefits and potential harms, and develop recommendations that inform doctors, other providers, and patients. To date, the Task Force has issued 142 recommendation statements.
Disease prevention is a Trump administration priority. As Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said, “Prevention should be one of the most powerful tools in American medicine. We should identify disease early, prevent it when we can, and give doctors and patients the best evidence to make decisions about their health.” AHRQ looks forward to supporting the Task Force as it advances President Trump and Secretary Kennedy’s goal of making America healthy again.
