Behavioral counseling interventions for healthy weight and weight gain in pregnancy.
This AHRQ-authored Putting Prevention Into Practice (PPIP) article is a quiz on the Behavioral Counseling Interventions for Healthy Weight and Weight Gain in Pregnancy U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommendation. Three questions are included with the answers and references at the end of the quiz. The questions are 1) Under what circumstances should physicians offer behavioral interventions; 2) What is the recommended gestational weight gain for the case study patient; and 3) Which of the 3 approaches to promote healthy weight gain during pregnancy are correct for the patient?

Interventions for tobacco smoking cessation in adults, including pregnant persons.
This AHRQ-authored Putting Preventions in Practice quiz has three questions and answers on the US Preventive Services Task Force final recommendation on interventions for tobacco smoking cessation in adults, including pregnant persons. A case study is presented with questions on the best behavioral interventions, e-cigarette use, and pharmacotherapy for tobacco cessation in pregnant persons. References are also provided at the end of the answers.

Group B streptococcal bacteriuria in pregnancy: an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care.
Screening and management of group B streptococcus (GBS) bacteriuria in pregnancy aims to reduce the incidence of pyelonephritis and GBS-related neonatal morbidity and mortality. This article used a case study approach to discuss evidence-based, patient-centered care for group B streptococcal bacteriuria in pregnancy as well as ethical incorporation of individual patient preferences and values.

Screening for asymptomatic bacteriuria in adults.
This case study poses three questions concerning a 33-year-old woman presenting for a first prenatal visit at 8 weeks' gestation. The woman reported morning nausea and breast tenderness. A review of systems and physical examination were consistent with early pregnancy but were otherwise unremarkable.

Screening for hepatitis B virus in pregnant women.
This case study involves a 33-year-old U.S.-born pregnant clinician presenting for a first prenatal visit. She was pregnant once, more than two years ago; at that time she screened negative for the hepatitis B virus (HBV). She reports that she received an HBV vaccination one year ago during a work-related physical examination.

Screening for preeclampsia.
A 28-year-old white woman comes to your clinic for prenatal care reporting a new-onset severe headache. She is currently pregnant with twins at an estimated gestational age of 22 weeks. Her obstetric history is significant for one previous term singleton vaginal delivery at 24 years of age without complications. This case study poses three multiple choice questions together with the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations and related background information.

Assessing the economic impact of paternal involvement: a comparison of the generalized linear model versus decision analysis trees.
The authors illustrated a methodological comparison of decision analysis modeling and generalized linear modeling (GLM) techniques using a case study that assesses the cost-effectiveness of potential father involvement interventions. They found that lack of paternal involvement was associated with higher rates of preterm birth, small-for-gestational age, and infant morbidity and mortality, concluding that healthcare costs could be significantly reduced through enhanced father involvement during pregnancy.
