Structured clinical documentation to improve quality and support practice-based research in headache.
The authors developed a proprietary toolkit to aid clinicians when creating clinical documentation in electronic medical records (EMRs). This toolkit will help clinicians provide discrete data and not unstructured free text which many clinicians enter into the EMR. The toolkit collects hundreds of fields of data and interprets score tests for a number of difference assessment tools for anxiety disorder, depression, migraine disability, and insomnia. The toolkit was used at 4346 initial patient visits as of April 1, 2018. The toolkit is being shared with other clinics as part of the Neurology Practice-Based Research Network.

Team science approach to developing consensus on research good practices for practice-based research networks: A case study.
Using peer learning strategies, seven experienced practice-based research networks (PBRNs) working in collaborative teams articulated procedures for PBRN Research Good Practices (PRGPs). The PRGPs is a PBRN-specific resource to facilitate PBRN management and staff training, to promote adherence to study protocols, and to increase validity and generalizability of study findings. This paper describes the team science processes which culminated in the PRGPs.

Practice-based Research Network Research Good Practices (PRGPs): summary of recommendations.
The authors summarized recommendations for improving research processes within practice-based research networks (PBRNs) to ensure research integrity. The result, the PBRN Research Good Practices (PRGPs) document, is organized into four chapters: (1) Building PBRN Infrastructure; (2) Study Development and Implementation; (3) Data Management, and (4) Dissemination Policies.

Community pharmacist participation in a practice-based research network: a report from the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (Rx-SafeNet).
The researchers described the experiences and opinions of pharmacists serving as site coordinators for the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (Rx-SafeNet). In general, Rx-SafeNet site coordinators appeared to experience increased confidence in research engagement after joining the network. While respondents identified a number of benefits associated with network participation, concerns about potential time constraints remained a key barrier to participation.

Pragmatic cluster randomized trials using covariate constrained randomization: a method for Practice-based Research Networks (PBRNs).
This study used covariate constrained randomization with data on relevant variables before randomization was used to achieve balanced study arms in 2 pragmatic cluster randomized trials (CRTs). It found that covariate constrained randomization, which restricts the full randomization set to a subset in which differences between study arms are minimized, is a useful tool for achieving balanced study arms in CRTs.

Lessons learned in the growth and maturation stages of a community pharmacy practice-based research network: experiences of the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (Rx-SafeNet).
In 2012, the authors reported on their early experiences developing the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (Rx-SafeNet) after establishing the Network in 2010. In this article, they report on lessons learned over the past 3 years.
