Clarity on disparity: who, what, when, where, why, and how.
This purpose of this article was to explain a comprehensive framework of health disparities descriptors that can offer a systematic approach to advance the understanding of causes of health disparities and facilitate action steps to ensure health equity.

Poor weight recovery between stage 1 palliation and hospital discharge for infants with single ventricle physiology: an analysis of the NPC-QIC Phase II dataset.
The purpose of this study was to investigate change in weight-for-age z-scores (WAZ) and risk factors for impaired weight gain between stage 1 palliation (S1P) for single ventricle physiology and discharge. Data from the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative Phase II database was analysed. Findings showed that nearly all infants lost weight after S1P, with little recovery by hospital discharge. At discharge, three-quarters of the infants were at-risk for impaired weight gain or had failure to thrive. Most risk factors associated with change in WAZ were unmodifiable or surrogates of disease severity.

Rotavirus vaccination rate disparities seen among infants with acute gastroenteritis in Georgia.
The purpose of this study was to determine possible disparities and socio-economic differences in RV vaccination rates. The study conclude that racial disparities and socio-economic differences are not determinants in rotavirus vaccination rates; however, age and ethnicity have an effect on RV vaccine status.

A framework for assessing outcomes from newborn screening: on the road to measuring its promise.
The researchers proposed a framework for assessing outcomes for the health and well-being of children identified through newborn screening programs. As an example, they applied the framework to sickle cell disease and phenylketonuria, two diverse conditions with different outcome measures and potential sources of data. They concluded that their paper presented a customizable outcomes framework for organizing measures for newborn screening condition-specific health outcomes, and an approach to identifying sources and challenges to populating those measures.

Maternal depressive symptoms and attained size among children in the first 2 years of life.
The researchers evaluated the relation of maternal depressive symptoms with attained size and whether it is stronger for young children in low-income families. They found that odds of short stature were significantly increased at 6 months in the total sample and among low/middle-income families for children whose mothers reported symptoms. Other measures of attained size were not associated with depressive symptoms.
