Food for thought: a randomized trial of food insecurity screening in the emergency department.
Despite the growing interest in screening for food insecurity in the clinical setting, little evidence exists regarding screening formats that maximize disclosure and caregiver comfort. In this randomized trial, investigators asked English-speaking adult caregivers of pediatric patients in the emergency department at an urban, freestanding children's hospital to complete a validated, 2-question screen for food insecurity. Although both verbal interview and tablet-based screening modalities were effective in identifying food insecurity, tablet-based screening had a higher disclosure rate and was the participants' preferred screening method.

Preliminary psychometric analyses and clinical performance of a caregiver self-efficacy scale for food allergy self-management.
The researchers examined the preliminary reliability, validity, and clinical performance of a novel 8-item Food Allergy Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (FASEQ). They present preliminary evidence that the FASEQ is a valid tool to assess caregiver food allergy self-efficacy.

Food insecurity, hunger, and obesity among informal caregivers.
Increasing numbers of US residents rely on informal caregiving from friends and family members. Caregiving can have substantial health and financial impacts on caregivers. This study addressed whether those impacts include adverse nutritional states. It concluded that caregiving is associated with increased risk of food insecurity and hunger in Oregon.
