Employing a user-centered design to engage mothers in the development of a mHealth breastfeeding application.
The Mother's Milk Connection mHealth application was designed to improve breastfeeding duration and access to support. This article describes a user-centered design process to engage mothers in the development of the Mother's Milk Connection application. Stakeholder and user engagement indicated the integration of four distinct features acceptable for use as a comprehensive mHealth intervention to improve access to breastfeeding support. Further, mHealth has the potential to be a useful strategy for providing breastfeeding support, and a clinical trial regarding the efficacy of the Mother's Milk Connection application is needed.

Geographic access to international board-certified lactation consultants in Pennsylvania.
The goals of this study were to assess geographic access to international board-certified lactation consultants in Pennsylvania, to compare access in rural vs. urban counties, and to compare access by county-level breastfeeding initiation rates. Researchers used geographic information systems methodology and a cross-sectional observational design to calculate the proportion of all young children, children in urban and rural counties, children in counties with low, medium, and high breastfeeding initiation rates who lived within specific distances of board-certified lactation consultants in Pennsylvania. Comparisons were made to answer the research goals. While the results indicate that most Pennsylvania children live in proximity to a board-certified lactation consultant, a lower percentage of children in rural counties and in counties with lower breastfeeding rates do.

Primary care interventions to support breastfeeding: updated evidence report and systematic review for the US Preventive Services Task Force.
This updated report found no significant association between interventions and breastfeeding initiation . There was limited mixed evidence of an association between system-level interventions and rates of breastfeeding from well-controlled studies as well as for harms related to breastfeeding interventions, including maternal anxiety scores, decreased confidence, and concerns about confidentiality.

Promoting breast milk nutrition in infants with cleft lip and/or palate.
The purpose of this article was to present (1) scientific evidence that supports clinical feeding practices for the infant with cleft lip/palate (CL/P) and (2) teaching strategies for staff and parents. Special considerations for feeding infants with CL/P include assessing the infant's sucking ability, demonstrating proper breastfeeding positioning, supporting mothers to establish and maintain their milk supply, considering adaptive feeding equipment (ie, specialized bottles and nipples), and education about the benefits of human milk.
