Successful non-directed living liver donor transplant for an infant with biliary atresia during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This case study describes a successful non-directed living liver donor transplant for an infant with biliary atresia that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. Careful preoperative planning was used to prevent infection pre- and post-cooperatively, and robust telehealth technology use both in and out of the hospital.
AHRQ-funded; HS026510.

Subacute liver failure following gene replacement therapy for spinal muscular atrophy type 1.
This paper reports on two cases of transient, drug-induced liver failure after gene replacement therapy using an adeno-associated virus vector containing the survival motor neuron 1 gene.

Group B streptococcal bacteriuria in pregnancy: an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care.
Screening and management of group B streptococcus (GBS) bacteriuria in pregnancy aims to reduce the incidence of pyelonephritis and GBS-related neonatal morbidity and mortality. This article used a case study approach to discuss evidence-based, patient-centered care for group B streptococcal bacteriuria in pregnancy as well as ethical incorporation of individual patient preferences and values.

Prenatal diagnosis of a ventral abdominal wall defect.
This paper is a case study describing an infant diagnosed prenatally with fetal ultrasonography with multiple abnormalities including a ventral abdominal wall defect and confirmed herniation of the liver with the portal vein extending outside the abdomen, stomach, small bowel, and majority of the large bowel without an overlying membrane. The kidneys were enlarged as well. Multiple surgeries were performed. Ultimately the infant died 38 days after birth.

Joseph's story: a case study of late-onset necrotizing enterocolitis from early birth to recovery.
This case study presents Joseph's story about a 24-week surviving twin who developed severe necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) at 5 months of age just days before he was to go home. Although NEC struck late and kept Joseph in the neonatal intensive care unit for 228 days, its consequences remain with this resilient child and his family.

Assessing the economic impact of paternal involvement: a comparison of the generalized linear model versus decision analysis trees.
The authors illustrated a methodological comparison of decision analysis modeling and generalized linear modeling (GLM) techniques using a case study that assesses the cost-effectiveness of potential father involvement interventions. They found that lack of paternal involvement was associated with higher rates of preterm birth, small-for-gestational age, and infant morbidity and mortality, concluding that healthcare costs could be significantly reduced through enhanced father involvement during pregnancy.
